Documentaries & Co: Diesseits von Eden / Au plus près de l'Eden

Time for another edition of Documentaries & Co. This time, it is a documentary available in both German and French and actually part of a documentary series. Hosted by Russian-born German bestselling author Wladimir Kaminer, it is entitled Diesseits von Eden in German or Au plus près de l'Eden in French - it would be "On this side of Eden" in English - and produced by French-German TV station ARTE. The documentary series features eastern European gardens mostly from the 18th and 19th century. There are actually new episodes this year but this one is from two years ago - about the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, created and once owned by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein. Enjoy!

Sparkly Splendour: The Galerie d'Apollon and the French Crown Jewels at the Louvre

When you think of the Louvre, you probably think of paintings and art - but it is also home to another kind of incredible craftsmanship: The French Crown Jewels. The Palais du Louvre , of course, served as a royal residence between the 14th and 18th centuries. And it is here in the  Galerie d’Apollon , a work of art in itself, where you can find a variety of tiaras and other bejeweled objects. The room owes its existence to King Louis XIV, who famously identified himself with the sun god Apollo. This gallery was one of his first building projects to represent that image. The death of Richard Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg earlier this week saw a surge in interest in my take on the (in)famous will of inheritance looming over the family .
